Ruby is one of the most historically significant coloured stones and one of the four precious stones together with Sapphire, Emerald and Diamond. In the ancient language of Sanskrit, Ruby is called ‘ratnaraj’, or a ‘king of precious stones’.

Early cultures treasured Ruby for its blood red colour and believed that the stone held the power of life. People in ancient India thought that rubies enabled their owners to live in peace and prosperity.

Ruby is associated with the Base Chakra. It increases vitality and stimulates the flow of Chi (the life-force energy) aiding with ailments of the stomach and heart. It is also helps the circulation of energy, overcoming exhaustion and lethargy.

Ruby is considered a blood stone, it is believed to strengthen the heart, ventricles and coronaries and stimulate good circulation and blood flow.
