Notting Hill with Ottoman Hands: the carnival.

Notting Hill Carnival in all its vibrant, music-filled glory starts today. To celebrate this amazing festival and our very special London neighbourhood we have decided to delve into its history. Hope you enjoy learning a bit about the carnival and the area, we call home.

A little bit about Notting Hill

Notting Hill is located within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea just to the west of Central London. A multicultural and cosmopolitan neighbourhood, hosting the annual Notting Hill Carnival and the Portobello Road Market on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Infamous for its colourful houses and the classic movie ‘Notting Hill’ starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, this area of London has everything city dreams are made of - cute coffee and book shops, vintage boutiques, amazing people and so much more. Notting Hill has a very special place in our heart - it’s where our brand has started and where we still call home.

About the Notting Hill Carnival

Known as Europe’s largest street festival, Notting Hill Carnival has been an ongoing event for a long time. The first carnival was held on the 30th of January 1959 as a celebration of the diversity of the people of Notting Hill, to show that they have more in common than different. The event was televised by the BBC and organised by Claudia Jones, Trinidadian journalist and activist, also known as the ‘mother of Notting Hill Carnival’.

There is a certain vibe you feel at the carnival: it doesn’t seem like you’re on a random street in London packed with strangers, you’re celebrating amongst people with love and joy, all in unison with great music and dancing. All ages and cultures. All types of costumes and colours. You can be anything you want to be on that day and feel it, that’s the joy of the carnival.
