Ottoman Hands Travels. Escape to Marrakech. Tips, Ideas and Travel Jewelry
Vivaciously vibrant colours, tantalising scents and warm hospitality, not to mention stunning Moorish architecture... There are countless reasons why I've always wanted to visit Marrakech. The opportunity came up when I was invited to my friend's hen trip. And disappointed I was not! Marrakech is one unforgettable place where all your senses truly come alive. So here are my tips, ideas and travel jewelry edit for this stunning gem of a destination...
We have chosen to travel to Marrakech for four days in April (I would recommend a spring break in this gorgeous city if you are not a fan of summer heat). What is so appealing about Marrakech is that it is only three and a half hours away by plane and you can actually explore the main attractions in a space of a few days.
With North African April sun glowing above us as we were exploring Jema El Fna square and strolling through a myriad of souks in the spice bazaar, discovering authentic and artisanal crafts. There is such an abundance of gems, that I was tempted to leave with everything! Every corner we turned, we found more unique, Moorish creations, from handmade accessories to pottery. We ended the day at a charming rooftop restaurant called Nomad, where we enjoyed mouth-watering dishes, such as delicious vegetable couscous and saffron scented Moroccan date cake while soaking in the views of the medina and Atlas mountains.
Another big highlight was the Majorelle Gardens. I have been to a few picturesque gardens before, but none was as enchanting and breathtaking as the infamous Majorelle Gardens. Bought by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé in 1980, they truly inspire with their botanical charm and beauty. From bright electric blue hues of the villa to the verdant landscape, it makes you feel like you're in a serene oasis, where nature and colour are at one.
Ayshe's 5 Marrakech Travel Tips:
- Spend at least a couple of hours in the souks so you have time to revel (and to bargain!) in all the beautiful artisanal gems.
- Visit the Majorelle Gardens to be swept away by the lush nature and vibrant architecture.
- Wear comfortable shoes as visiting Marrakech requires a lot of walking.
- Visit Nomad for lunch to experience Moorish dishes with stunning views over the medina (book in advance, as it gets busy).
- Go to Comptoir Darna to enjoy Moroccan music and belly dancing!
Marrakech is all about colour. From its beautiful, red brick architecture to bright, blooming plants, so I brought outfits to reflect this: from flowing floral maxi dresses to colourful skirts styled with comfortable sandals. When it comes to choosing travel jewelry for Marrakech, the bigger and more colourful the better! My top picks of Ottoman Hands jewellery I styled my outfits with are Pink Agate and Turquoise Wrap Ring teamed with statement Chianti Red Agate Flower Earrings to complement the bohemian and lush surroundings. No outfit brought to the weekend getaway would be complete without a pair of boho earrings, like these chic Dahlia Aqua Chalcedony and Pink Agate Flower Drop pair, to add that final artisanal touch.
I can say that Marrakech, you had me at Mrheba!
