Power of the Evil Eye: The symbol of protection

You may have come across the 'Evil Eye', an ancient talisman, on a piece of jewellery or at a local store on your Mediterranean holidays. And while this symbol is setting the spiritual jewellery trend alight, we wanted to share with you what this symbol represents.

Evil eye imagery has frequently popped up in the world of fashion. With celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid, and even Meghan Markle sporting evil eye necklaces and bracelets, you’re bound to have come across it, perhaps without even realising.

So, what is the meaning behind the evil eye?

The evil eye curse is a “look” or “stare” that is believed to bring bad luck for the person it is directed at. The evil eye talisman was created as a protective symbol to ward off this curse and, instead, invite good fortune.

This symbol of protection dates back to at least the 6th century BC and can be seen referenced in many different cultures, though it is most commonly seen in Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and West Asian folklore.

While the evil eye curse and talisman have their roots in ancient belief systems, many people around the world still believe in their power today and considering the success seen by some celebrities who have been spotted in evil eye jewellery, it’s can’t hurt to wear one yourself... just incase.

Evil Eye jewellery is deeply connected to the heritage and culture of our founder, Deniz Gurdal, who is never seen without her evil eye pendant!

Whether you believe in the evil eye or not, it certainly is a stylish jewellery staple. Layer your evil eye pieces with contemporary gold chains and pendants for the ultimate Mediterranean look.
