AW17 Trends by Ottoman Hands

Happy September! With the fashion month in full swing we have looked to the biggest and brightest names in the industry to bring you four key fashion trends of AW17 and how to wear them now.

Trend 1

Red, Red, Red meets Heirloom Treasures

Head to toe is the new, grown-up way to wear statement colour, according to the likes of Max Mara, who sent hues from warm ivory to lipstick red down the catwalks in a powerful monochrome parade, to Fendi and Valentino, who packed a punch in a few aw-inspiring colour-blocked looks. If you are to choose one colour to embrace this season, make it rich and luscious red. From burgundy and oxblood to classic Louboutin red, it’s time to come out of the shadows.

To make the monochrome look a more personal affair, turn to beautifully artisan details with a vintage touch: a royal shade with an heirloom magic… Historical references and shapes have inspired our most sought-after collection this season - Ottoman Classics. Beautiful gold earrings dripping in gemstones are complemented by semi-precious stone pendants, featuring engraved details and wondrously decorated gold cocktail rings!

Styling tip: Pick the shade that suits you the most: there are so many hues of red, it can be a daunting task, but surely, most rewarding at the end. Mix and match antique-style jewellery pieces for a chic and cool look (and to avoid looking like your great aunt at the family wedding).

Working Girl finds New Pearls

Taking work-wear to the new style hights, designers this season truly meant business: beautifully strong tailoring, charming kitten-heeled shoes and of, course, the mother of all 9-5 looks - a crisp shirt. They came in all shapes and colours: classic whites at Celine, vintage patterned at Fendi, ruffle-necked at Balenciaga.

When it comes to jewellery, Pearls, can probably be put in the same category of timeless smart staples. Whether a pearl necklace or classic pearl studs, this gemstone has captivated our hearts for centuries. However this season it comes reinvented and reimagined in beautiful new shapes and styles aplenty. From statement Baroque Pearls to delicate beads adorning ornate jewellery creations, the world is truly your oyster!

Styling tip: Both Pearls and white shirt, can look dangerously old-fashioned if not done right. Choose pearl jewellery with character: whimsical pearl drop earrings or beautiful antique-style earrings can make a great artistic statement, while raw natural shapes, like Baroque Pearls, will add opulence. White shirt with a gorgeous sleeve detail (think leg of the lamb or a tasteful puff sleeve) will add a chic update to your tailoring, while an off-shoulder version will complete a great office to cocktails look (a flick of red lipstick and a quirky accessories will seal the deal).

Folk Florals

With florals - an all-year-round staple of any fashionable closet - taking a darker, more occult turn this Autumn/Winter, designers have looked to folklore to draw inspirations and references from detail rich fables and mysterious tales. Sarah Burton, creative director of iconic British fashion house - Alexander McQueen - flew her design team to Cornwall to explore pagan landscapes and rituals, while Alessandro Michele has described his petal infused collection at Gucci as "a walk inside a garden of an alchemist”.

Here at Ottoman Hands, we have also looked to the botanical world to create a gorgeous selection of gold jewellery to bring those winter florals to life. From wondrous drop earrings, mimicking branches, leaf motifs and flower, to petite gold studs, drawing inspiration from natural objects, foliage has never looked so chic.

Styling tip: If you are on a look-out for a perfect floral print, go for a darker, moodier colour palette with just a touch of bejewelled hues. Choose a print with interesting, almost unexpected, elements, that would draw the attention (and compliments) and accessorise with equally as enchanting jewellery. Yes, this is not the look for the faint hearted, but we promise you’ll love it!

Denim Dreams + Statement Hoops

With 90s firmly heading into the fashion lime-light, denim has never looked so on-trend. From crisp indigo garments at Dior, and Brook Shields-esque all American ensembles at Calvin Klein to beautifully tailored denim suits at Stella McCartney. Varied, yes! Must-have, yes-yes!

To give this off-duty favourite a polished look, we strongly recommend some gems! And what else can pay better tribute to edgy 90s than a pair of gold hoops. This jewellery staple has never really left our wardrobes, but this season hoops have been reinvented in new statement shapes. Artisan metal-work and hand-set semi-precious stones really bring hoop earrings to the new style

Styling tip: Not feeling the head-to-toe denim look? Opt for a beautifully cut denim mac in a darker wash, layered over black jeans and a sand-hued jumper (brown is only the hottest colour of the season!). Finish the look with a pair of black booties and Ottoman Hands hoop earrings.
